“The process of making is where the meaning is born. In the confrontation with the material, the desire for form arises.”
I’ve always drawn. From childhood, stimulated by my parents, on the back of rolls of wallpaper, work prints, in short, everything that was available. I learned to look in form, light and color in a playful way. As a teenager on Saturday mornings, the graphic artist Luuk Scholten introduced me to printing principles such as monotype and linocut. Later, at the art academy, my interest turned to the drypoint technique and lithography. Drawing has been a constant activity in my life over the years, sometimes in the background, sometimes more in the foreground. I like the small scale registration. Sketches in my travel diaries, but also photos of my daily surroundings.
